NEWTON, MA - Lasell College extended its win streak to six games as the Lasers took down the University of Maine at Farmington, 16-6 in non-conference women's lacrosse action this afternoon at Grellier Field. Lasell improved to 6-1 on the season, while UMF dropped to 2-2.
Britney Wuorio (Bolton, MA) tallied five goals and an assist to power the Lasers with Ashley Slattery (Weymouth, MA) adding three goals and three assists and Caitlyn Brecher (Cheshire, CT) and Bridget Ryan (Chatham, NJ) each pitching in with three scores. Lasell recorded 34 shots to the Beavers' 21.
Emma Morrison (Saco, ME) scored a trio of goals for the Beavers, who also received a goal each from Molly Carbin (Scarborough, ME), Maddi Kadnar (Belgrade, ME) and Alyssa Neptune (Readfield, ME). Morrison also had team-highs of five ground balls and six draw controls in the loss, while Miranda Levesque (Sanford, ME) assisted on Carbin's goal.
Morrison got the Beavers out to a 2-0 lead over the first 10:53 of the game, but Lasell answered with five straight scores, while holding UMF off the board for nearly 16 minutes, to take a 5-2 advantage with 3:51 until intermission. Neptune broke the drought with an unassisted tally with 1:33 left in the first. The Lasers scored twice in the final 22 seconds for a 7-3 halftime lead.
Following two exchanges of scores over the first 10:14 of the second, Ryan kicked off a 5-0 stretch that helped the hosts put the contest away. Wuorio converted a free-position shot and netted an unassisted goal to cap the run and give the Lasers a 14-5 command with 6:10 to play to seal the 16-6 victory.
Alexa Katsigianis earned the victory, registering 10 saves for Lasell. Hannah Goodenow (Freeport, ME) stopped 13 shots for the Beavers.
UMF is off until April 6 when it is scheduled to open North Atlantic Conference East Division play against Colby-Sawyer College at 1 p.m. on Prescott Field. Lasell will return to action on Tuesday March 27th, when the travel to Emmanuel College for a 7 p.m. contest.
