DUDLEY, MA- Lasell College women's lacrosse laced together a 10-0 second half run which lifted the Lasers to prevail 21-10 at the final buzzer against Nichols College on Monday evening at Vendetti Field. Senior Tina Canavan (Stonington, CT) produced eight points while scoring the game-winner to bring Lasell to 5-4 overall this season while the Bison dip to 1-6.
Lasell produced a 6-2 lead through the first 17 minutes with a pair of goals each by Canavan and Britney Wuorio (Bolton, MA) and one marker each by Chelsea Caren (Redding, CT) and Rebecca Stanton (Agawam, MA).
Nichols slowly crawled back into the game with five goals before the end of the half, broken up just twice by Lasell's Ashley Slattery (Weymouth, MA) to bring about an 8-7 Laser lead at halftime.
After goals by Kathleen Duziak (Williamstown, MA) and Toni Minelli (Newington, CT) flipped the favor to the hosts for the first time in over 25 minutes, Lasell tore into a 10-goal stretch to leave the Bison wavering behind.
Canavan initiated the run to tie the game at 9-all at 26:30. After Slattery's third tally less than a minute later, Canavan notched the game-winner at 23:48 and then added insurance just 20 seconds after that to establish a lead the Lasers would never surrender.
Over the next 13 minutes, Lasell would convert on six more shots with Wuorio unloading three, Slattery tacking on two, and Neila Kudla (Groton, MA) netting one.
All told, Nichols would break up a second half 13 goal streak by Lasell just once when Krista-Jean Forand (Plymouth, MA) hit the mark at 8:35.
Lasell outshot the Bison 33-29, won the battle at the draw 19-15 and converted on 3-of-5 free possession attempts as opposed to Nichols 2-of-7 chances.
Laser netminder Kristin Coderre (Monson, MA), who was named Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Goal Keeper of the Week for the third time this season on Monday, took the win in impressive fashion with 14 stops through the matchup.
The Lasers continue a three-game stint on the road with GNAC tussle against St. Joseph's College of Maine on Thursday, April 7th. The Monks and the Lasers will begin their battle at 7:30 p.m. at Deering Memorial High School.
