Softball Splits Twinbill with Lesley
Newton, Mass. - The Lasell College softball team earned a split in a pair of non-league games against Lesley University, dropping the first game 7-2 and winning the second game 4-2. The split moved Lasell to 8-22 on the season, while Lesley stands at 11-8 overall.
Lasell was held to two runs on four hits in the opening game, with Talia DeChiara (Kingston, Mass.)and Mary Fontaine (Nashua, N.H.) each recording a double for the Lasers. Emily Mangariatti led the way for Lesley, hitting a lead-off homerun in the third inning, and adding three singles. Mangariatti scored three times in the game while also driving in a pair of runs. Sarah Apgar finished the game with a double and three RBI's for Lesley.
Jennifer Dorval earned the win for the Lynx, going seven innings and striking out nine, while allowing two runs on four hits. Alison Saluti (Braintree, Mass.) took the loss for Lasell, yielding seven runs on 12 hits while striking out a pair.
Lesley got on the board in the bottom of the first inning, using three straight singles to put the games first run on the board. Amanda Szidat (Westford, Mass.) led off the top of the third with a triple for Lasell, and scored on an RBI groundout by Santina Antoshak (Closter, N.J.) to help the Lasers draw even at 1-1.
Lesley went back ahead in the bottom of the fifth, scoring a run on a pair of singles, giving the Lynx a 2-1 lead. Lasell tied the game in the top half of the sixth and then held the Lynx scoreless in the bottom of the inning, sending the game to the seventh inning tied 2-2.
Lasell opened the seventh with three straight singles from Antoshak, DeChiara and Mary Fontaine and a Lesley error allowed Antoshak and DeChiara to score on the single by Fontaine.
Lesley loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh, but were unable to score as Cassie Wadden (Brookfield, Mass.)induced a game ending pop out to end the threat.
Wadden earned the win, limiting the Lynx to two runs and scattering 12 hits while going all seven innings for Lasell.
