Lasers Notch Third Victory over Chargers
NEWTON, MA-- Lasell's men's volleyball team triumphed over the Chargers of the University of New Haven, 3-0, for the third time this season on Thursday evening at the Lasell College Athletic Center.
NEWTON, MA-- Lasell's men's volleyball team triumphed over the Chargers of the University of New Haven, 3-0, for the third time in as many matches this season, on Thursday evening at the Lasell College Athletic Center. With the triumph, the Lasers season record culminates at 18-9 (8-4 GNAC), as they head into the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament on Saturday, March 27th against Emmanuel College.
Lasell defeated the Chargers easily in the three set match by scores of 30-25, 30-26, 30-25. Lasell’s right side Micah Aiu (Honolulu, HI) and outside hitters Will Leclerc (Fairfield, CT) and Mike Harrington (Billerica, MA) produced a three-way-tie for a game-best eight kills each in the match. Junior middle Dan Rogers (Belchertown, MA) added seven and freshman outside hitter Spencer Parker (Newington, CT) added five.
Sophomore setter Brendan McGourn (Southington, CT) put his hands on 43 assists in the three sets, adding eight digs and four blocks. Lasell’s sole senior, Andy Cass (Wakefield, RI) who was honored prior to the contest during a Senior Night celebration, registered a match-high 13 digs, adding six kills. Freshman outside Alex Mill (Danville, NH) also collected eight digs in the match.
Lasell hit a .246 clip as a team as compared to New Haven’s .036. The Chargers had top performances by Austin Michalski and Gregg Brisbin who each tallied seven attacked balls for Charger points. Ryan Earl distributed 24 assists and picked up a team-best seven digs on defense.
Lasell enters the GNAC Tournament as the third seed, facing second seeded Emmanuel College on the Rivier College campus, at 1:00 p.m.
