Parker Selected to All-Tournament Team as Lasers Split at MIT
CAMBRIDGE, MA- Spencer Parker (Newington, CT) was named to the All-Tournament Team as the Lasers went 2-2 at the Sixth Annual MIT Men's Volleyball Invitational the weekend. Parker had a top performance which included 27 kills, seven digs, and six blocks in the four match weekend.

Lasell opened the weekend playing nationally ranked #5 (as of the March 2nd AVCA poll) Carthage College. Though the Lasers played very strong, and took one set from the Red Men, Lasell dropped their first tournament match 3-1 (30-25, 18-30, 30-18, 30-27).
Sophomore setter Brendan McGourn (Southington, CT) put up 39 assists in the four set contest, adding four digs. Parker tallied a team-high 14 kills, and also made four blocks in the match. Will Leclerc (Fairfield, CT) and Micah Aiu (Honolulu, HI) chipped in with seven and six kills respectively, and freshman Max Vaughan (Wethersfield, CT) picked up a team-best eight digs.
The Lasers then came off the defeat and took on Mount St. Vincent College, winning in four sets, 31-29, 27-30, 30-24, and 30-20. Lasell was led by junior middle Dan Rogers (Belchertown, MA) who hit a .625 clip and swung for 11 kills. Senior outside Andy Cass (Wakefield, RI) also produced 11 kills in the match, hitting 45.0%, to go along with six digs.
McGourn dished out 50 helpers, put down four kills and made seven digs, and Vaughan collected nine digs on defense.
On the second day of competition, Lasell began by defeating University of New Haven for the second time this season, sweeping the Chargers in three games (30-20, 30-15, 30-25). Parker, Aiu, Rogers, and Mike Harrington (Billerica, MA) each tallied six kill apiece in the match. McGourn set up the attackers for 36 assists, also grabbing a team-high nine digs. Freshman outside Harry Strobel (Westport, CT) also contributed to the Lasers victory with five kills and three digs.
The final match of the weekend was against nationally ranked #10 Milwaukee School of Engineering. Lasell was defeated in straight sets by the national powerhouse, 30-13, 30-20, 30-19. McGourn tallied 25 assists and put down two service aces, while Strobel came up with five kills and Leclerc notched four kills in the setback. Vaughan also chipped in with 10 digs.
After using tie-breaking procedures to determine the champion of the tournament, Milwaukee School of Engineering edged out defending champion Emmanuel College for the crown on Sunday. Both squads posted unblemished marks throughout the weekend, but using total point differential to resolve the deadlock, the Raiders notched 24 more points to collect the title in their tournament debut. Lasell finished fifth in the tournament, behind MIT and Carthage.
The Lasers return to GNAC action on Tuesday evening when they will host conference leading and nationally ranked no. 7, Rivier College, at 7:00 p.m. in the Athletic Center.
