Lasers Drop Season Opener against Medaille
Nashua, NH- Lasells mens volleyball team opened up their 2010 season at the Rivier College Tournament on Saturday evening. Lasell faced a tough Medaille College in the first round and lost the match, 3-1, with scores of 30-25, 20-30, 18-30, and 22-30.
Nashua, NH- Lasell's men's volleyball team opened up their 2010 season at the Rivier College Tournament on Saturday evening. Lasell faced a tough Medaille College in the first round and lost the match, 3-1, with scores of 30-25, 20-30, 18-30, and 22-30.
The Lasers came out with intensity in the first set, putting a complete game together and winning convincingly. Medaille, however, returned with a renewed concentration and began to find holes in the Lasers defense, thus moving on to steal the remaining three games and win the match.
Lasell's junior middle hitter Dan Rogers (Belchertown, MA) hit an impressive .556 clip, making six kills on nine attempts with just one error. Rogers played all four sets also putting down three solo blocks and one assisted block on defense at the net.
Sophomore right side Micah Aiu (Honolulu, HI) notched eight kills in the match. Aiu had the second highest hitting percentage on the team, at 31.6%. Lasell's freshman outside hitter Spencer Parker (Newington, CT) also dropped in 13 kills in the match, while also picking up four digs and adding three total blocks.
Sophomore setter Brendan McGourn (Southington, CT) dished out 30 assists to his attackers while also producing three kills of his own.
Defensively, Will Leclerc (Fairfield, CT) and Chris Burns (Chelmsford, MA) combined for ten digs.
The Lasers will open up at home on Tuesday, January 19th at 7:00 p.m. Lasell will face Wentworth Institute of Technology in non-conference action.
