NEWTON, MA-- Sophomore setter Brendan McGourn
(Southington, CT) and freshman outside hitter Spencer
Parker (Newington,CT) were selected onto the Great
Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Men’s Volleyball First
Team All-Conference for the 2010 season. Sophomore right side
Micah Aiu (Honolulu, HI) was chosen as a Second
Team recipient and junior middle Dan Rogers
(Belchertown, MA) was honored on the Third Team.
This is the second year that McGourn, a 6’0” setter, has been selected the first GNAC First Team All-Conference. In 2009, McGourn was also honored as the Rookie of the Year in the GNAC. This season, the second year athlete produced 928 assists in 27 match (85 sets), averaging 10.92 assists per game. He also contributed with 73 kills, 29 service aces, 119 digs and 44 blocks this year.
McGourn finished the 2010 season ranked 2nd in the
GNAC and 14th in the NCAA Division III for assists per
game. He also ranked 9th in the GNAC and
50th nationally for aces per game (.34). McGourn
is already 2nd in the Lasell College All-Time
men’s volleyball record books for total career assists, with
1745 in two years.
Parker finished his first season with the Lasers as the leader in kills on the team. The 6’5” rookie outside hitter put down 228 kills in 72 sets (26 matches). He averaged 3.17 kills per game, good for 4th in the GNAC and 50th in the NCAA (DIII). Parker was also a force on defense, producing 35 blocks and 95 digs this season.
Parker recorded the team-high for kills in a match this season against Endicott College (02/13/2010) when he dropped in 19 attacks in four sets. He also had a team-high of 17 kills in five sets against University of New Haven (02/26/2010).
Aiu was consistent all around for Lasell this year as a right side attack. The sophomore transfer registered 171 kills, good for third on the team, and averaged 2.14 kills per set. He also served up 25 aces, picked up 79 digs, and rejected 61 opponent attacks with his block (30 solo, 31 assisted). Aiu was ranked 10th in the GNAC and 39th in nationally for attack percentage, finishing the season hitting a .290 clip.
Rogers was a first time GNAC All-Conference honoree this season. The junior middle hitter notched 180 kills this season, on 346 attempts with just 38 errors, producing an impressive .410 attack percentage on the year. Rogers’ hitting percentage placed him at 1st in the GNAC and at an incredible 2nd place rank amongst all of the NCAA DIII . He also ranked 27th nationally in aces per game, averaging .43 per set, and totaling 33 this season.
Rogers also led the Lasers in blocks this season, with 66 total (30 solo, 36 assisted), averaging .86 per set. At the conclusion of the 2010 season, Rogers ranked 5th in Lasell’s All-Time record book for total kills and 6th for total blocks.
