NEWTON, Mass. – The leading scorer on the Lasell College men's basketball team was recognized with a weekly honor from the Great Northeast Athletic Conference on Monday after his performance in a pair of conference victories last week.
Sophomore Stefan Masciarelli (Northbridge, Mass) was named the GNAC Men's Basketball Co-Player of the Week, sharing the honor with Johnson & Wales University junior Brian Hogan-Gary. Masciarelli earns his first Player of the Week honor this season after being a GNAC Honor Roll selection twice last month.
A 6-1 guard, Masciarelli averaged 35.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 4.5 assists in a 2-0 week of GNAC play, shooting 58.7% (27-46 FG, 6-15 3PT, 10-13 FT). He had a career-high 36 points (13-24 FG) Wednesday at Anna Maria before registering 34 points (14-22 FG), five assists and five rebounds Saturday in a home win over Mount Ida. He scored 20 in the second half against Mount Ida to help the Lasers overcome a 16-point second-half deficit.
The Lasers will be home again on Thursday, Jan. 11, with a conference game against Emmanuel and will visit Johnson & Wales for a GNAC matchup on Saturday, Jan. 13.
