PROVIDENCE, R.I. (9/7/17) Senior Leah Sullivan (Mansfield, Mass.) netted both goals for the Lasell field hockey team in a 2-1 victory over Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Johnson & Wales on Thursday afternoon. The Lasers notch their first conference win and advance to 2-0 overall, while the Wildcats drop to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in GNAC action.
Both of Sullivan's goals came in the 29th minute of play, only 34 seconds apart. Sullivan's first goal came in unassisted fashion, before sophomore Samantha Taylor (Hanover, Mass.) set her up for the eventual game-winner. Johnson & Wales answer back in the 33rd minute as McKayla Weaver (Enfield, Conn.) scored for the Wildcats off a rebound, but the score remained 2-1 as the clock expired.
Denise Landry (New Milford, Conn.) recorded nine saves for the Lasers and improves to 2-0 this season, while Wildcats' goalkeeper Claire Nolan (West Bridgewater, Mass.) made 12 saves in the deficit.
Lasell returns to action on Saturday September 9 as they host non-conference opponent Wheelock College at 12:00PM. Johnson & Wales travels to Westfield State for a non-conference match-up on Tuesday September 12 at 7:00PM.
